The Physiotherapists at Caerphilly Children’s
Centre are employed by Aneurin Bevan Health Board and are governed by
Trust policies and procedures.
What are physiotherapists?
The physiotherapists based at the Caerphilly Children’s
Centre are employed by the Aneurin Bevan Health Board. They specialise
in working with children and young people, and can offer treatment at
the Centre, at Trinity Fields School, in mainstream schools, nursery,
playgroup and in children’s own homes. The physiotherapists can also
offer sessions in the hydrotherapy pool at the Centre and assist with
the Orthotic (specialised splints and foot wear) weekly clinics here.
What do Children’s
Physiotherapists do?
-
Assess children in
order to confirm a diagnosis and decide whether physiotherapy
treatment would be beneficial.
-
Treat a wide range of
conditions. This can be on an individual basis or within a
group. We may sometimes ask one of our physiotherapy technicians to
carry out a treatment programme.
-
Advise parents and
carers how they can help improve the way a child is able to move and
function.

skills, and provide them with ongoing support so that they are able to
carry out the physiotherapy programmes at home and at school.
Here are just a few examples of what we may be
aiming to achieve through our treatment:-

Helping
a child to reach the next stage of their motor development such as
sitting up or walking.
-
Improving a child’s
ability to balance.
-
Teaching a child how
to move independently in water in our hydrotherapy pool.
-
Improving the
breathing of a child with a respiratory condition.
-
Reducing pain and
strengthening muscles when a child has an orthopaedic problem.
