Occupational Therapy for Children & Young People

The Occupational Therapists (OTs) based at Caerphilly Children's Centre will help children maximise their abilities to learn, socialise and play. The OTs will work closely with the child or young person, parents and teachers to develop practical approaches and find solutions to help them get the most from life, whether at school or in the community.

How do OTs help?

First, we find out which occupations the child / young person is having difficulty with.

Then, we may:;-

  • help the child / young person develop the skills they need to do everyday things
  • teach the child / young person, parents or other adults new ways of doing thins to make them easier and safer
  • provide equipment to help make things easier and safer.

The occupational therapy (OT) team consists of both qualified OTs and OT support staff.

Part of the team also provides a service at our local special school, Trinity Fields School and Resource Centre at Ystrad Mynach.

All staff work in the community and complete treatment sessions at a variety of environments  -  these could include:-

  • school
  • home and
  • the children’s centre.

The OT service’s referral criteria are available on request from OT Team Lead .

Please refer to the OT leaflet for more details or contact the OT team direct.
