Key Working

The Caerphilly Key-working service aims to provide families with children between the ages of 0-5 that have recognised additional needs, a service which can co-ordinate multi-agency involvement and provide the family with emotional and practical support.

Having a number of professionals involved with a child can be very overwhelming.  A Key-worker aims to prevent families from feeling overwhelmed by professionals and appointments, and assist them to feel in control, and being able to maintain family life.

Below is a list of the different things the Key-working service can offer families if/when needed:-

  • To offer emotional support
  • To advocate on families’ behalf
  • To co-ordinate and attend Team Around the Child meetings
  • To share information on families’ behalf when requested
  • To monitor and evaluate the delivery of the care plan
  • To liaise with other professionals working with the family
  • To ensure the family income is maximised

The aim is to minimise the disruption of multi-agency involvement to family life.

These comments may give you an insight of how a family can benefit from Key-working:-

“Having someone to talk on our behalf and sort out appointments for us is brilliant because we have enough to deal with.”

“It helps to summarise what stage all the carers are at with our child and helps us feel involved with the care of our child.”

“It has helped us with getting appointments and other needs for our child quicker and easier and has helped us with problems we have had.  I would recommend care co-ordination to other families.”

“I feel this service is invaluable to our family, just knowing someone is on our side if ever we really have to resort to asking for help is so reassuring.”
