Image of Caerphilly Childrens' Centre from outsideThe Caerphilly Children’s Centre provides a range of high-class services to disabled children and young people aged 0-18yrs who live, or go to school, in the Caerphilly County Borough.

The Centre has been open since 1990, and is a partnership between:-

  • Action for Children  (click here to visit their website)
  • Caerphilly County Borough Council  (click here to visit their website)
  • Caerphilly Local Health Board  (click here to visit their website)
  • Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust  (click here to visit their website)
  • Parents’ Council
  • “Enable”, its fund-raising group (click here to see more details).

Before the Centre opened, the families of disabled children had to travel outside the area, even to obtain a basic and very limited range of services.

The transformation of these inadequate and out-dated services into the holistic approach to family needs on offer today is a story of vision and determination.

Image - laughing childThe children who use the Centre have a variety of difficulties including learning, physical and sensory disabilities.  The staff at the Centre provide help as early as possible and support families as their child grows.

The Centre provides a “one-stop-shop” for a range of services and clinics, so children can receive services locally in a friendly atmosphere.

Children are referred to the Centre by Health, Social Services and Education professionals.  The family is then visited at home, school or offered an appointment at the Centre, by an appropriate staff member, and discussions take place about which Services they need.
