Information and Advice Service

The Caerphilly Children's Information and Advice Service is for the families of children and young people with additional needs or disabilities who live or go to school in the Caerphilly County Borough.

It also a valuable resource for professionals working with these families.

The Service is based at Caerphilly Children's Centre, Energlyn, CAERPHILLY CF83 2WP.  Details of how to contact us can be obtained by clicking here.

Referrals to the service can be made by: -

• Telephone
• Referral form
• Letter from any professional involved with the child.

Parents or carers can also refer themselves.

This site is provided as a focus for help, assistance, guidance, advice and news to parents, carers, relatives and friends of children with disabilities or special or additional needs.  There will also be links to other organisations whose interest lies in helping your child and you.  It will be updated frequently; as it develops, new features will be added and the content kept fresh and interesting.

Information and Advice

The Information and Advice service can send information by post, can meet families at the Children’s Centre, or visit them at home; whichever is more convenient for the family.

Professionals can contact the service by telephone/fax or contact in person.

The Information and Advice service often becomes involved with a family shortly after they receive a diagnosis, and will remain involved for a short period of time, 2-3 months providing relevant information about their child’s disability, and advice regarding any benefits or allowances to which they may be entitled.  Parents and carers often request contact with local and national support groups and organisations, which the service can also provide.

Families are welcome to contact the service after the initial contact for more information as their child grows, although 1:1 support is limited to children up to the age of 10yrs.

Library

The Information and Advice service is responsible for a small reference library, also based at the Caerphilly Children’s Centre.  The library contains books and leaflets covering a wide range of topics relating to children and young people’s disabilities.

Sections include:-

• child development
• legal matters
• specific conditions and syndromes
• education
• behaviour management
• grants and funding
• books for children and siblings

A small number of DVDs and videos are also held.
